University of Nebraska Athletics

March 5th, 2008

Like I mentioned before, Nebraska has this love affair with sports that is hard to describe, and this is especially true when we talk about collegiate sports, and, in particular, University of Nebraska athletics. Let’s just say that when it comes to collegiate sports, the University of Nebraska athletics lineup has the benefit of having one of the most prestigious names that an athletic department could hope to have. University of Nebraska Athletics – which of course includes all the sports teams of the University of Nebraska plus a score of health support and administrative people – is definitely among the best because not only does it inspire its athletes to excel on court, they also take care of these young athletes.

I honestly believe that the University of Nebraska Athletics also has the benefit of having a very large number of rabid supporters (my brothers – by blood or otherwise – are a case in point, of course) who know how to pump up the players and athletes. I think that this overwhelming support and loyalty displayed by the fans of the University of Nebraska Read the rest of this entry »

Nebraska Escorts

March 5th, 2008

Remember that rant I had a while back about Nebraska coeds? Well, allow me to rant about Nebraska escorts for now, because if anything, the very idea of them being thought of as less than human is a rather uncomfortable topic for me. You see, despite living in a relatively conservative state, a certain part of my soul and upbringing happens to be incredibly liberal, and thus, my take on Nebraska escorts is a bit more…tolerant. True, Nebraska escorts could be categorized within the realm of prostitution, but as far as I could tell – despite the obvious objectification of these women – Nebraska escorts are at the very least compensated for their services (unlike the Nebraska coeds, who are actually stereotypes that are objectified). Also, despite the sexual connotations that the term “Nebraska escorts” implies, there is a certain high-end professionalism attached to the title. I guess my point here is that Nebraska escorts, in my opinion, are entitled to some kind of dignity BECAUSE THEY ARE DOING A JOB.

Jobs in Nebraska

March 4th, 2008

So yeah. I’ve resumed my quest to look for jobs in Nebraska, which had been put on hiatus because I became more focused on informally educating (and raising) my nephew and working on that immoral sideline of mine: writing and editing academic papers for underclassmen who are so overwhelmed by their workload that this was the only thing I can do to keep them from taking “uppers” – that’s drugs, to you innocent folks out there. I’ve decided that no matter how fulfilling my current way of life feels, I am nevertheless wasting away by not going out and looking for jobs in Nebraska. And by jobs, I mean proper jobs, jobs that may very well lead to a lasting career that will support me through the rest of my life.

Of course, it is never easy looking for jobs in Nebraska; jobs in Nebraska, while plentiful in the sense that there is always someone hiring, have the downside of not being able to cater for everyone, especially with someone like myself who people think is too overqualified for, say, a clerk job. There is also the question of location when considering jobs in Read the rest of this entry »

Nebraska Colleges

March 4th, 2008

I found myself leafing through some old leaflets of Nebraska colleges that I had back when I was in high school and trying to figure out what I want to do with my life in a fit of inexplicable nostalgia. Somehow, I felt that in looking at these choices for Nebraska colleges through these new (or is it more appropriate to call them old, as I am older now even though I am far from wiser?) eyes that maybe I may have missed something about myself, thus costing me and leaving me stagnating as a person. Or maybe by looking at which Nebraska colleges made it to my list of possible options, I could finally figure out what it is about me that makes me so reluctant to move on.

Again, strangely enough, it was Wesley who pointed out that all of my choices for Nebraska colleges allow me to come home at least for the weekend; most of my choices Nebraska colleges had been very close to where my family lived. What my list of choices of Nebraska colleges shows, Wesley told me, is that I am very attached to my parents, to my brothers, Read the rest of this entry »

Nebraska Diamond

March 4th, 2008

I’m not that big a fan of romanticism, but sometimes, some things happen that make me want to just squeal with glee over the power of love. The case in point would be this morning, when my father showed up at the doorstep, apparently having elected to not help pick up my two errant younger cousins in Kansas. In his hand was a box with a beautiful diamond ring he bought from Nebraska Diamond for my mother, apparently as an apology gift for being away so long and as a birthday gift, as she will be celebrating her birthday next week. The Nebraska Diamond purchase brought tears to the eyes of all the women present – Mom, Donna and myself. It’s one of the sweetest things my father had ever done for my mother.

For those of you who don’t know, Nebraska Diamond is one of the best places to get a ring (engagement or otherwise) here in Lincoln, if not in the entire state of Nebraska. The service is great, the prices are reasonable, the products are Read the rest of this entry »

Nebraska Supreme Court

March 4th, 2008

I got the feeling that I was going to have a very strange day when I woke up thinking about the Nebraska Supreme Court, and how I’d like one of my cousins to actually be part of that someday. After all, I have more than a few relatives who are, if not already working in the field of law with both private and civic practices, are at the very least looking into studying for a law degree. And while not all of them are living in Nebraska, I’m sure that those who do live here in this state have a very high chance of becoming part of the Nebraska Supreme Court – we come from a very intelligent family after all, despite our strange (almost obsessive) preoccupations.

As it is, I firmly believe that the Nebraska Supreme Court is a fair legal body as far as courts of last resorts are concerned. I find it funny, however, that Wesley would beg to differ by saying that the Nebraska Supreme Court isn’t any more fair than other courts, if it only has one female justice while the rest of them, including the Chief Justice (who represents the Read the rest of this entry »

Nebraska Schools

March 3rd, 2008

It’s really a frightening prospect: although he’s not really of school age yet, Sammy needs to have list of Nebraska schools to choose from by the time he needs to start on his education. I know, i should have seen this coming considering the fact that Donna and I have discussed Nebraska schools before. But I rather like having Sammy at home, and the idea of him picking out Nebraska schools really makes my heart ache – and he’s not even my kid (Donna told me to get my own, which I definitely refuse to do). Still, I also want what’s best for Sammy, so I find myself being roped into the task of looking through the best options for Nebraska schools that Sammy might enjoy going to – preferably, of course, here in Lincoln.

As biased as it may sound, I honestly think that there’s no place better to educate my exceptionally bright little nephew than in one or two Nebraska schools. As far as I’m concerned some of the best years of my life were spent in Nebraska Read the rest of this entry »

Nebraska Furniture Mart Kansas

March 3rd, 2008

Imagine my surprise when I received a call via my cell phone and found out that my two gay cousins from either side had somehow managed to evade the hunting party, and that they have gone south (they were moving north before), ending up in Kansas City of all places – kind of funny since they supposedly started the chase in Nebraska City, Nebraska. Anyway, the phone call in question was not from any one of the men in our family who went out to look for them; it came from the boys themselves – they were at the Nebraska Furniture Mart Kansas and wanted to go home. How they got to the Nebraska Furniture Mart Kansas in Kansas City, I probably will never know and will never ask for fear of the answer. What matters is the fact that they boys want to come home and they were both complaining about how the Nebraska Furniture Mart Kansas is not quite as good as the Nebraska Furniture Mart Omaha – the complaint, at the very least, is proof enough that they were okay.

Nebraska Elections

March 3rd, 2008

I’m willing to admit that Nebraska elections – that is, any election held in Nebraska, whether it involve just the state or the whole of the United States of America – tend to be a very hot topic here in our house. Let’s just say that apart from sports, Nebraska elections tend to inspire some of the bloodiest debates among friends and family that you can experience in a nightmare world when you happen to be sitting around either our dinner table or the coffee table. This is because my family is pretty flexible when it comes to voting, and our friends – republicans and democrats – find that our place is neutral enough territory to debate over the results and fairness of Nebraska elections.

I would like to take some time to comment that indeed, the season of Nebraska elections could be seen as some of the most interesting times I will miss once I’ve finally claimed my independence and venture out on my own. In any case, Sammy has witnessed his very first Nebraska Election Blitz over the weekend, care of Uncle Ricky (Republican), Aunt Read the rest of this entry »

Nebraska Tourism

March 3rd, 2008

With all my obsession with the Nebraska road trip that never happens, I was suddenly confronted by Donna who told me that I really should get into the Nebraska tourism industry, because as much as I claim to not know anything much about places in Nebraska, I also happen to research like heck about places in an attempt to figure out the best places to swing by while driving around the state. I laughed at first, since I never even considered Nebraska tourism as a good career line for me. But the hours passed, and the idea began to grow on me a bit. After all, even though Nebraska tourism isn’t part of what I had taken up in college (or university, whatever you prefer to call it), it is still pretty lucrative since Nebraska tourism is the third largest industry of the state after agriculture and manufacturing (I think).

Wesley pointed out that my interest and mastery of seemingly useless facts regarding the history of some of the attractions we can find in the state will probably pay me back in cash if I do decide to get into the Nebraska tourism Read the rest of this entry »
