University of Nebraska Lincoln
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is actually the very first University of Nebraska – some even call it the “original University of Nebraska” – before the University of Nebraska came to be the name of one of the two public university systems in the state. Of course, what this means is that among all the campuses affiliated with this school system, the two that comprise the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is the oldest. Founded in 1869 in Lincoln, Nebraska, this educational establishment has been standing for almost one hundred and forty years. Today, it is considered world-wide as one of the top doctoral and research institutions.
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (also known as UNL or NU) had the honor of being the first American West educational institution to grant the Ph.D. degree, and the first to offer ecology as an educational discipline. Apart from this, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is home to other intellectual and creative triumphs such as the first undergraduate psychology laboratory and the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery and Sculpture Garden.
Of course, following the modern adage “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”, UNL can’t be all about studying. And believe us, when they play, they play hard and play to win. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln happens to play home to some of the most powerful sports and athletic teams in the inter-collegiate level. The Cornhuskers (“Huskers” to those who support and love them) always do Nebraska proud, especially the football team.
With this kind of legacy, it’s likely that UNL will live forever.
