Nebraska Law

One of my distant cousins (who I ironically feel very close to) had just told me that she was moving to this state in order to study law. Apparently, she likes the way Nebraska law makers handle themselves, and she’s determined to be just like them. I also have this distinct feeling that her invisible words in that particular conversation we had included “I’m moving there for good” and “I’m immersing myself completely in Nebraska law”. Not that I have anything against her dreams and all, but her drive makes me feel incredible inadequate, especially considering the fact that I have little to no knowledge of Nebraska law – and I’ve lived here all my life.

How I managed to not do anything illegal yet is quite an achievement, now that I think about it. But it does not change the fact that pretty soon one of my younger cousins will show up and lecture me about the finer points of Nebraska law, and the importance of its existence to my well-being. I’d argue that my well-being is just fine without that knowledge, because culpability is diminished by ignorance; but I can’t claim ignorance of Nebraska law now that a beloved relative will keep reminding me.

On the other hand, if I DO get arrested I get a really good legal consult…
