Nebraska Humane Society
If there’s one thing that I truly, completely, love about Nebraska, it would be the fact that they have so much respect for nature and all its inhabitants. And that isn’t limited to the wilderness either – there are more domestic incarnations of this love, such as that of the Nebraska Humane Society.
The Nebraska Humane Society, as you may have already guessed via its name, is in fact one of the many animal shelters that care and find homes for the multitude of abandoned or unwanted animals. What makes the Nebraska Humane Society especially special among others of its kind is the fact that it was first founded in 1875, making it the fifth oldest animal shelter in the United States of America. Of course, back then, it sheltered not only animals, but children; it was only in the 1940’s when the states began to address child welfare and other related issues, that the Nebraska Humane Society started to exclusively deal with animals.
Today, the Nebraska Humane Society (based in Omaha) is one of the most prominent and influential organization of the state when it comes to educating the masses about responsible pet ownership and animal rights. They goal is to promote kindness to animals, and making sure that each life finds for itself a home that would love it.
