Nebraska History

Did I or did I not mention that I’m a bit of a history nut? I bring that up now because Samuel came up to me and asked about the story of Nebraska. And when someone asks for the story of something, then they are essentially asking about the HISTORY of that something. So it is with particular enthusiasm that I began recounting Nebraska history to my young and brilliant nephew. He was so wrapped up in the details of Nebraska history that we actually for got about his nap time and, although this meant he was cranky come evening, it also meant he would sleep soundly until morning. Donna is pretty much between anger and gratefulness.

In any case, the entire affair got me thinking about my own fascination with Nebraska history back when I was a child. There had been hunting on these lands long ago, and so many feet had passed over the soil in a quest for freedom and independence. Nebraska history is rich and colorful with battles, wars, political figures – Nebraska history had helped shape this country, this nation in which we live. How could we NOT love the history that defined much of what Nebraska is now? I regret that I never really managed to express this passion to my fellow students back then.

But Samuel and his curiosity brings me hope.
