Nebraska High School Football
Remember how I said that it’s utterly ridiculous that the bulk of men in my life are football nuts? Well, this just takes the cake.
One of my distant cousins’ kids, a ten-year old named Cole, had announced to his parents that he will begin his extensive training so that by the time he hits his teens, he’ll be a shoo-in as an ace in Nebraska High School Football. And in case there’s any doubt, YES, Nebraska High School Football is practically a precursor to Huskers football - it’s just as important to the community.
Thus, there was much celebration in our clan, and now little Sammy is being considered by the family as the “next Cole”. Thankfully, Donna firmly declared that Sammy won’t be the next anything, and he will only be himself. Whether or not it includes training for Nebraska High School football is beside the point.
I had to smile at that, although I guiltily thought that Sammy just might be an excellent addition to the Huskerland Preps. I may not want him to be obsessed, but I know I want him to have fun - and I’m pretty sure that Nebraska High School football would not only be fun, but a means of character-building as well. And without a father figure, Sammy might need it.
