Nebraska Basketball
Pretty much like almost every other sport here in Nebraska, Nebraska basketball’s top of mind reaction and connection happens to be college Nebraska basketball. It’s really not that surprising – after all, college sports happen to be very popular and the University of Nebraska (Lincoln) had so far provided the state a place in collegiate sports history as one of the best, toughest, and greatest.
Basketball is one of the oldest, yet one of the coolest sports anyone can hope to play; but before we forget that it only got sucked into all this “coolness” hype, we must remember that it has been around for a long time and is a sport worthy of respect. That seems to be the case with the University of Nebraska Basketball team, which has existed since 1897 (six years after the game was invented), and while they had their losses early on, they proved themselves to be winners in the end. Of course, it would not be until the 1980’s that the Huskers would prove themselves to be major championship material and make proud Nebraska basketball history.
There are other Nebraska basketball teams, of course, but as my friend Lily (quite cruelly) once said, “Let’s face it, the other teams are nothing if they barely show up in mass consciousness.”
