McCook Nebraska

I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t get back to sleep again. So I decided to pick up a dart and dabble with the map again – after all, it’s a very productive way of spending a sleepless night. So I threw the dart, and for the first time in a long time, I landed on a place that I haven’t written about before with just one try. I landed on McCook, Nebraska.

Sitting in Red Willow County, McCook Nebraska is a smallish county seat of the state. This does not mean, however that it has diminished significance – McCook Nebraska happens to be the birthplace of one of two US senators from the state: conservative democrat Ben Nelson. Also the birthplace of one of George Norris, who had a role in establishing the unicameral legislature of the state, one can actually say that McCook Nebraska is a political hub of the area.

But McCook, Nebraska is not all about politics. It has a nascent vineyard, the Ravenswood Road Vineyard, which is near the Republican River. McCook Nebraska is also home to the Buffalo Commons Storytelling Festival, an annual affair held at the first weekend after memorial day. Apart from those, visitor will be happy to experience historical walking tours (based on the railway and agricultural history of the city), a bit of hunting and fishing, and a trail.

Should I? Maybe.
