Lincoln Nebraska

Lincoln, Nebraska has been the capital of the American state of Nebraska since the first of March 1967, and is one of the most important cities in Nebraska. Apart from being the capital of the state, it is also the county seat of Nebraska’s Lancaster County and the site where the University of Nebraska university system was first founded.

Originally, Lincoln, Nebraska was named Lancaster, Nebraska when it was established in 1956 and started out as a simple village that happened to be established near the iconic salt flats and marshes of the area. The name change from Lancaster, Nebraska to Lincoln, Nebraska supposedly happened because Omaha local who wanted to keep Omaha the capital of Nebraska moved to name their competitor after the anti-Confederate president Lincoln – at the time, the area was more inclined to support the Confederates. But the plan obviously did not work, and Lancaster – then renamed Lincoln – became Nebraska’s state capital.

Today, Lincoln, Nebraska has the second-largest population in the state of Nebraska, and plays home to several nature parks. Nature parks found in Lincoln, Nebraska include the Antelope Park (where the Lincoln Children’s Zoo is found) and the Wilderness Park.
